Over £30,000 raised at The #PrideviewCricket Cup ’19!

Our annual charity cricket day, The Prideview Cricketers’ Cup, continues to go from strength to strength, with this year’s tournament, our 8th one, raising over £30,000 for our chosen charity, One Kind Act (see their Thank you letter to us) and taking us well on our way to £150,000 raised since the event began!!

Thank you to all participants, donors, sponsors and volunteers for this fantastic effort!! Click here to see the tournament brochure once again, which details all the participants and sponsors.

The aim of the event as always is to provide a memorable day out for those from the property and business community whilst raising as much money as possible for charity. The funds raised from this year’s tournament will be distributed to 3 worthy projects, all of which are monitored and vetted by One Kind Act:

  • The Real Junk Food Project London NW– Funding a new kitchen for this project which recycles 1 ton of wasted food per week for the benefit of 100 struggling residents of Burnt Oak
  • Ab Jeetega India Foundation– Providing opportunity via sport to underprivileged young athletes across India
  • Made with Hope, Tanzania– Helping a private primary school in Arusha expand to accommodate another 135 poor children

The Group Stages

Due to phenomenal demand for team entry this year, we reached our maximum of 12 teams, and for the 2nd year in a row the Prideview team stood down to accommodate.

A special mention has to go to our first ever international outfit, Cutting Edge Events, who came all the way from Mumbai to take part in our event! Along them we were pleased to welcome several other new teams including Knight Frank, Mantra Capital, Fusion Consulting and ‘Indistan’, a group of friends associated with One Kind Act.

The 12 teams were divided into 4 groups of 3 meaning each team had to play in a round-robin format with the top team in each group proceeding to The #PrideviewCricket Cup semi-finals, the 2ndgoing into The Prideview Champions Trophy semi-finals and the best 2 teams out of the bottom sides slugging it out for the Best of The Rest trophy. As expected reigning champions Axiom Stone and 3 times winners Jade Pharmacy powered through their groups, picking up bonus points in each games whilst having spectators ducking for cover, whilst Jaspar Group topped their group thanks to a solid win against our Indian guests Cutting Edge Events. Group B provided the most drama as all three teams won one and lost one however as both Logicare and Knight Frank had earned a bonus point they went head to head in a dramatic bowl-out whilst Bentech had to settle for a place in The Best of the Rest Final against next best ‘losers’ Indistan.

The Ladies Bowl-Out, Market Stalls & Kids’ Activities

Whilst the cricket carried on, there was plenty on offer for spectators of all ages. Once again The Ladies Bowl-Out stole the show, where about 50 women tried their luck in the hope of winning a Fendi handbag. The final showdown incredibly was came down to 3 top property lawyers, Jaymini Ghelani of Axiom Stone, Rima Sengupta of Lawrence Stephens and Mina Kakkad of Harold Benjamin with Rima holding her nerve to take the prize!

Kids were treated to a bouncy castle, face-painting, an appearance by Bal the Bharat Army mascot and an ice cream van sponsored by Liquid Bubble Media.

We were pleased to host several Market Stalls, comprising local businesses who made a donation in order to attend: Physiotherapists R&D Physio, IV Infusion Therapists Reviv Northwood, Handmade Baker & CakemakersMnM Bakes and Education Toy Supplier Monkey Cave.

The Knockout Stages

After a nice afternoon tea with a twist thanks to The Dosa Maker, it was time to get back to business. Two teams dropped out here – Z Group, who failed to send out a full team on the day, and Fusion Consulting, who gave up their brave fight after taking two batterings at the hands of Axiom and Mantra, wisely opted to focus energies on the bar. 10 teams remained, 4 in the semi-finals of the main tournament (The #PrideviewCricket Cup), 4 in the plate tournament (The Prideview Champions Trophy) and 2 in the Best of The Rest Final.

Best of The Rest Final: Indistan beat Bentech by 22 runs

Prideview Champions Trophy Semi 1: Major Estates beat Cutting Edge by 6 runs

Prideview Champions Trophy Semi 2: Knight Frank beat Mantra Capital by 15 runs

Prideview Champions Trophy Final:

Major Estates beat Knight Frank by 13 runs and won The Prideview Champions Trophy ’19!

Results from The #PrideviewCricket Cup were as follows. Jade Pharmacy, looking for their 4th consecutive Prideview Cricketers’ Cup almost stumbled to a very well supported Jaspar outfit, but snuck through on the last ball!

Prideview Cricketers’ Cup Semi 1: Axiom Stone beat Logicare by 40 runs

Prideview Cricketers’ Cup Semi 2: Jade Pharmacy beat Jaspar Group by 18 runs

The Prideview Cricketers’ Cup Final:

This was a rerun of the 2018 final which was never going to disappoint. The two standout teams in the tournament went head to head with Axiom batting first and smashing a solid 71 runs off their 5 thanks to another inspired innings from top bat Zahid Ali Khan who plundered 36 from the opening 2 overs. The score would have been higher had it not been for quality final over of spin bowling from Jimmy Patel who took 2 wickets for a net score of just 1 run. Jade Pharmacy began the chase well with Kevin hitting 24 in the first 2 overs he chased and taking it to 29 needed off the last 2 overs. However Axiom held their nerve and thanks to some disciplined bowling and excellent catching they took 4 wickets in the final 2 overs, including one off the last ball of the innings bowled by Idnan Liaqat, sparking off wild celebrations.

Axiom Stone beat Jade Pharmacy by 44 runs and retained The #PrideviewCricket Cup!

Raffle & Auction

We were delighted to have raised over £10,000 during the main fundraising part of the day, with a number of fantastic prizes up for grabs. In the Raffle the top prize was a souvenir bat signed by Virat Kohli, but there were also some fantastic hampers, dining experiences, sports tickets and even a ball signed by the Arsenal football team. Thanks to all those who donated prizes and sold raffle tickets, it certainly made a difference.

It was then over to John Townsend, former auctioneer at CBRE, to auction off our prize lots. An additional lot, a bat signed by the entire Indian World Cup side, has been donated at the last minute by Farokh Engineer, the former Indian cricketer who was due to attend our event but unfortunately due to ill health could not. This indeed was the top lot, selling for £4,000! A ball signed by Virat Kohli sold for £2,000, a Mumbai Indians shirt signed by brothers Hardik and Krunal Pandya sold for £1,000 and a ball signed by Jimmy Anderson sold for £600. Thank you all those who bid and those who helped us provide these lots.. For those of you with merchandise to donate, please note we are now accepting lots for our July ’20 auction!
