Looking for a new place to live can be an incredibly stressful experience, especially if you’re not sure what you’re looking for. You’ll spend a number of hours, wading through the sea of prospective houses, judging each one with scrutiny in order to find your perfect home. During our quests, most people will be able to tell you of that one house, that one place that stood out from the rest, but not for a good reason. Whether it’s a house left in a complete state, or something that’s ridiculously small, there is always one which you can gladly laugh about with your friends.
Dealing in both residential and commercial property for sale in London, we love a good bad property story but we recently heard one that had us in shock; a true horror story amongst the comedies that could turn anyone off viewing a house for good. We’re talking about a room for rent in Bethnal Green, east London that is £530 a month.
While that may just seem like an expensive price to pay for a room, it’s actually what the room is that makes this such an awful story. For £530, some lucky person can have a room in a shed that resides in someone’s living room.
You heard right, a shed.
A 22-year-old was also left checking his ears when he went to view the property last month after landing himself a job in London. Joe, from the Isle of Wight, said: “I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. There was no chance I was paying £530 a month for that.”
When he first walked in, he said he noticed the shed in the corner but paid it no mind but then he “scanned around the room and couldn’t see a bed so I asked where it was and the guy just pointed to the corner.”
“I stuck my head in for a look but there was basically no room for movement. The mattress was right against the walls of this shed and the windows were blacked out.”
Of course, the advert didn’t specify any of this. In fact, it specified that the room was the biggest in the house, and the only downside was having to sometimes share it with the house’s other occupants.
What they actually meant to say was the room the shed was in was the biggest, and you would have to share it sometimes because it’s in a communal space.
Needless to say, Joe didn’t take the room. Instead he found himself, “laughing down the road back to the tube.”
We don’t blame you, Joe.
